Food = Thought

If your dog is like mine, she loves food. Food is in my experience, the quickest and most direct way to train your dog. When it is time for you dog training session, be sure to have a few of her favourite treats nearby to reward her for good behaviour.

It can get expensive to always use doggy treats and frankly, many products on the market have a lot of additives (the same goes for people food...but that's another story). The foods that I often use are carrots, apples, bananas, and pieces of left over meat from my dinner. You should see what kinds of treats your dog likes (mine loves yogourt) and use those as rewards for good behaviour.

I frequently train my dog in the basics of sitting, staying, and laying down as I am preparing dinner since its a convient time to give my dog fresh treats. I often use her dinner as a great opportunity for training. I will put food in her bowl and set it down. Then I will call her over (far from the food) and get her to do tricks (sit, stay, down, etc). Her reward is dinner! This makes it easy to set aside time each day for dog training.

Remember, the secret to good dog training is repetition and consistency.
